Traditions[]

Each year on the first day of June, the Earl of Groan would judge three works by the Bright Carvers. Those judged not worthy would be taken to the courtyard beneath his western balcony and burnt, after which the three best would be displayed on the ballistrade of the balcony before being taken to the Hall of Bright Carvings. Those who had carved the surving carvings would have thrown down to them vellum scrolls granting them the right to walk the battlements above their dwellings at the fall moon of each alternate month[1].
